Bench Warrants in Putnam County
A Putnam County bench warrant is court process tied to an existing case or order. The research identifies missed General Sessions, Circuit/Criminal, or city-court dates; failure to satisfy a citation; and noncompliance with a payment plan or court order as local triggers.
Family, juvenile, probate, or contempt matters may follow separate rules. Use the court named on the notice or docket, not a generic county guess. An FTA entry and a new arrest warrant have different starting facts.
Putnam County General Sessions Is the First Call
General Sessions criminal and traffic dockets are the main public clues for many lower-court matters in Putnam. The judges' office handles judge functions, while the county directs court-date and cost questions to the Circuit Court Clerk.
Call the clerk with the case or citation number and ask which judge or venue controls it. The General Sessions office is listed at 421 E. Spring Street, Suite 1C07; use its official contact page for current routing.
The office image shows the local point of contact. It is not a warrant counter confirmation.

For current court dates and costs, the county page refers callers to the Circuit Court Clerk.
How a Putnam County Bench Warrant Is Issued
The judge in the case venue decides whether a missed obligation calls for a warrant or another court step. Putnam sources do not publish one countywide grace period, notice rule, or statewide public-warrant system. A docket may later record an FTA or “Unserved Warrant” note.
After issuance, the sheriff may serve county criminal process, while a city court retains its own citation and case record. Ask the court what it ordered and the PCSO whether service status changed.
Cookeville's Missed-Date Rules Differ
Cookeville City Court meets twice monthly on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The citation shows the appearance date, and an eligible nonappearance amount is due before 4 p.m. that day. A continuance request may be made by phone at least three days before court; the page says one may be allowed.
Those are Cookeville citation-stage rules, not a countywide bench-warrant recall policy. If the date has passed, call the City Court Clerk at (931) 520-5254 before paying online or going to the police headquarters.
Cookeville's official City Court page explains its local deadline and continuance route.
Bench Warrant vs Arrest Warrant
In Putnam County, a bench warrant follows a court obligation; an arrest warrant begins with a criminal complaint and probable-cause review. A capias or FTA note can describe a missed-court trail, but the label does not answer whether the case is current. Compare the facts, not just the word warrant.
| Feature | Bench Warrant | Arrest Warrant |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger | Missed setting, order, or citation obligation | Probable cause tied to an alleged offense |
| Who issues it | Judge handling the existing case | Judge or magistrate after review |
| Underlying record | Existing case in General Sessions, Criminal, or city court | Criminal complaint or charge record |
| Next step | Ask that court about reset or recall | Ask counsel and the issuing court about response and bond |
Putnam County Cities Keep Different Calendars
Baxter City Court meets monthly for traffic and code matters, with the City Recorder serving as clerk and keeping the docket. Monterey meets on the third Monday at 5:30 p.m., or the third Tuesday when a holiday shifts the schedule.
These calendars show why the issuing city matters. A Baxter or Monterey citation should go to that city's recorder or court before PCSO. Neither city publishes a public warrant search or a universal recall form.
Use the official Baxter recorder page or Monterey court page for the distinct schedule and payment route.
How to Resolve a Bench Warrant
Confirm the case with the issuing clerk and ask whether a new setting, payment, bond, or motion to recall is required. Putnam's reviewed pages do not publish a bench-warrant recall form, fee, or walk-in calendar.
- Call the issuing court or Circuit Court Clerk with the case number and missed date.
- Ask whether the judge will reset the case or requires a motion to recall or quash.
- For a criminal matter, consult a Tennessee lawyer about a planned appearance or surrender.
- Get the court's written order, then confirm PCSO and court status and keep the next date.
Caution: Do not assume the warrant expired or that payment alone recalled it; ask the issuing court what proof closes the missed-court step.
No Putnam County Recall Form Was Found
Putnam does not publish a single motion-to-recall form, filing price, or bond schedule for bench warrants. General Sessions dockets show individual bond notation, but that does not set terms for another case or court.
Ask the clerk what document to file and whether counsel must request a court date. If a payment is offered, ask whether it changes the warrant, the underlying case, or both.
A Putnam County Docket Note Does Not Recall Process
Putnam dockets may use “Unserved Warrant,” citation, bond, and hearing notes. A later order may not yet appear in an older PDF, and public court access has sealed and protected-record exceptions under Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 34.
Use the docket to identify the court, then ask that office to explain the live status. Do not rely on a printed status clue as a clearance order.
The Circuit Clerk's docket index links the dated case records.
Which Putnam County Court Issued It
The court that set the case controls a reset or recall. Putnam's lower venues include General Sessions and the four city courts. Serious criminal records can sit in Criminal Court or Circuit Court; Chancery matters go through the Clerk and Master.
Check the citation, court notice, or case docket first. General Sessions date and cost questions route to the Circuit Court Clerk at (931) 528-1508. For countywide confirmation steps, use the Putnam warrant search page.
The Clerk and Master handles Chancery records at 421 E. Spring Street, Suite 1C38, (931) 526-6321. That office is not the general warrant desk.
